- This is a contemporary oil painting on canvas incorporating the use of wax. I usually concentrate on building up layers of colour before adding focal points. The effect of this is a painting which is visually and often physically textured. Initially however this piece was mapped out using charcoal, and then painted using thinner washes to allow the original under drawing to show through. I also created some areas of impasto and sgraffito (drawing into wax).
