- A semi-abstract diptych, oil on canvas. I am currently producing work inspired by a visit to Venice in 2004. Rather than the grand vista, I like to focus on the architectural detail and patina so characteristic of the Italian region. I also love the playfulness of colour and light found around the Mediterranean and hope my passion for this subject matter shows through in my painting. This painting is inspired by the original Venetian glass- the glazing variety! Still found in many older buildings, it creates a shimmering dancing light on ceilings and walls. This painting was painted to be hung as one piece but it would look equally as good hung as two separate paintings. As is often the case, the lines and circles have been rather distorted during the recording process; the actual painting has very accurately painted parallel lines and circles- not slightly out like they appear above. I don't know- these amateur photographers!
